What are the symptoms of a bad fuel pressure regulator ?
Q. My 90 olds ciera isn't running right. It only runs when you throttle it up but doesn't run at idle. Also when you give it gas, it runs choppy and the SES light comes on, I cant get the codes because there is something wrong with the diag wires. The car DOES run but very choppy at idle when I unhooked the vacuum to the fuel pressure regulator, it does have vacuum too. So what is going on with my car? Fuel pressure is okay, it is at 45 PSI.

A. if your showing to have 45 pounds of pressure you don't have a problem with a fuel filter you probably need a new regulator on it those will cause one to run bad like that,gm products was famous for having those go out ,good luck.

I believe it is near the carburetor but I am not sure. Any help or suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks for the help. Byron W.

A. Is this a carburetor or TBI (throttle body injection)? They are often confused. The pressure regulator is most likely internal to the throttle body. Are you sure that your problem stems from the fuel pressure regulator?

A. 2001 sentras had several common problems that could cause low power. Most likely is bad ECM and Air Flow Meter. I would suggest trying the Nissan dealer for proper diagnosis.

A. I have some friends who had a smiliar set up and 40psi is not horrible, but if you can get it down to 30 that would be ideal. my friends that had problems with there were in the 50psi range and had to really tweak it to get it lower.

Is the Fuel Pressure Regulator in the gas tank of my vehicle?
Q. I have a 1996 Dodge Dakota, 3.9 L engine, 5 speed, 2 wheel drive. Im thinking the fuel pressure regulator is going out in my truck, Is the regulator located in my engine or in the gas tank?
Asked by mysty_2u - Mon Jan 26 09:27:53 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. On most vehicles it is on the fuel rail so the above posters are sort-of correct. But you have a Dodge which means the Regulator is mounted on the Fuel Pump Module inside the tank. The whole thing gets replaced as a unit.

Replacing a Fuel pressure regulator on a 98 Chevy Blazer?
Q. I have a 98 Chevy blazer 4 door, 4X4 V6. And I just recently bought a new fuel pressure regulator. But I'm having a problem trying to find where the things located under the truck. I've been told under the intake manifold and I've been told on top of the fuel tank. Now I know that's two totally different locations. And if you do know where it is, how hard is it to get to?
Asked by Rebecca F - Sun Dec 28 17:36:07 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It's located on the engine. Who diagnosed the problem for you. If you have no clue to where it is located, I would get it to a professional asap. If you want to research it online, try alldatadiy dot com.

How to change a fuel pressure regulator.?
Q. In a 95 blazer, where is the fuel pressure regulator and how do I change it and is there anything I need to know about changing it?
Asked by Opie - Tue Sep 15 23:55:39 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. If I am not mistaken, the fuel pressure is actually regulated by the fuel pump located in the fuel tank, along with a bypass return line located on the back of the TBI. Best bet is to look in a Chilton's or Haynes repair manual, found at ur local parts store...if your pressure is low, try blowing compressed air backward through the fuel line. pretty sure it's not too high, unless the pump came from somewhere else than the factory. you can buy your own regulator if it is too high, but make sure it is designed for injected applications and maintains specs that are in the manuals.

On a 93 chevy caprice, when I replace the fuel pressure regulator, do I have to also adjust the fuel pressure?
Q. Once I change the fuel pressure regulator do I have to adjust the pressure of the fuel or does the regulator take care of that for me?
Asked by Moe - Mon Oct 9 20:39:09 2006 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. i own a repair shop, and the pressure is already set at the factory for it,,all you have to do is put it on,,you,ll have to bleed all the air out of it,but that's easy, the car will actually do it for you,but no its pre-set at the factory, good luck,i hope this help,s.

Does changing the fuel pressure regulator increase gas mileage? ?
Q. I heard that by changing the fuel pressure regulator, then gas mileage might increase. Only of course if the current regulator is malfunctioning. Would anyone have any extra info for this? OR, changing the O2 sensor?
Asked by jessetruitt3 - Thu Nov 20 12:19:41 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Changing the O2 sensor will make a difference if its been about 40,000 miles or more since it was last replaced, they get old after so long and send bad values to the computer which affects fuel economy. As for the regulator, yes, if its malfunctioning it can bring your economy down, so changing it could help. However, if it is letting slightly (and i mean slightly, maybe 3-5 psi) more pressure through than normal it will cause the fuel to create a better mist from the injectors, causing the fuel to burn more efficiently since the gasoline vapor is way more flammable than the liquid and you could end up with maybe one more mile per gallon.

Q. It is an '88, 5.7 ltr, throttle body. If it has a regulator, where is it located and is it replaceable?
Asked by Sky K - Sun Jun 11 23:18:54 2006 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Yes its in the TBI incoming fuel line not the return one, the fuel pressure in line, and there is a diaphragm in side it but you must remove the TBI unit and also many times i pulled these off and the only problem was you will see upon removal the under side th PVC part of the unit will be plugged and this will give you many drivabilty problems and look fore hardened vacuum hoses and replace them they can be cracked and you will not see it it till you try to remove the TBI unit, hope this helps you take care

Can anyone tell me how a car with throttle body injection acts when the fuel pressure regulator goes bad?
Q. I have an 86 Cadillac Deville thats acting like its getting too much gas, and barely runs. I know that a bad regulator on a higher pressure multiport system can do things like that, but I don't know if a throttle body system is more likely to close and not get any gas, or get stuck open and get too much. Also, could a bad o2 sensor cause anything this extreme? thanks for any info
Asked by shastazoob - Thu Jan 24 10:12:57 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. well there is some truth in the answeres i read the regulator very well may be bad and this will throw a o2 sensor out of since and set the light no codes are set for the regulator usually when a regulator goes bad you will have a extended crank time mostly noticable when the engine is warm not all the time though if you un hook the vacumme line at the regulator and it is wet then your engine vacumme will draw gas instead of air this will set the o2 sensor code indicating it is running to rich more gas than air now anouther option is one or more injectors are stuck open or slightly open this will make it hard to start and run extremly rough and cause serious damage so check the regulator if no signs of gas in vacumme line pull some… [cont.]
