A. You want a specific answer but you didn't tell us which engine you have. If you have the 2.3L it's on the rear of the engine If you have the 3.0L, there are two. One on the left front cylinder bank, one on the right front cylinder bank

A. Right on the side of the motor under the valve cover Or are you talking about the crankshaft position sensor? Common to fail. It's under the crankshaft pulley, usually toward the cab side of the vehicle. The belt and pulley must be removed.

A. the sensor is under the timing belt cover at the top of the engine. If you are looking at the engine you'll see a black strip covering your spark plugs, your electrical connection on the camshaft position sensor is under there go ahead and disconnect the sensor. Next is the removal of the timing belt cover. You will need to take the bolts holding the cover in place they will hold it all the way down to the bottom of the engine. The bolt in the center top section is actually the bolt holding the sensor in place inside the engine so you will need to look and see how to maneuver the sensor out after the bolt is removed. Replace with new sensor and replace bolts. Plug electrical connector into the top of the sensor and replace spark plug… [cont.]

where is the camshaft position sensor located on a 1996 saturn sc2?
Q. 1996 saturn sc2 twin cam, fuel injection, manual. Camshaft position sensor code came out on diagnostic check. need to know where is this sensor located at.
Asked by lioness - Tue Feb 13 15:02:08 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The code your getting could be a few different things. First...check to make sure your ignition wires on the ignition coils are not corroded. Also using a digital volt ohm meter, check the resistance and continuity of each ignition wire. Second...Remove the ignition module/coiul pack assembly from teh transmission, clean the underside of the ignition module with steel wool, and clean the trans where it mounts. If its corroded, it could cause some issues. Both of those wont cost you anything to do. if after you do the above you still get the trouble code, you might need to replace the ignition module itself. Kevin

A. yes, the camshaft is on the top half of the engine and the sensor is on the side it should be easy to change, just an electric plug and one bolt, it might not have a hex bolt head, you might need a torx type tool to unscrew it.

Camshaft position sensor 1998 Ford Taurus location?
Q. My car started missing about two weeks ago. I had the plugs and wires changed but it still misfires between 45 and 60 mph. The "service engine soon" light came on yesterday and I took the car to Autozone and had the codes pulled. They told me that the camshaft position sensor was bad. My question : would a faulty camshaft position sensor cause the car to miss? and where can I locate the camshaft sensor to replace it? Thanks in advance for all serious answers!
Asked by Bree - Mon Oct 16 14:20:49 2006 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Usually the cam position sensor won't cause it to misfire (but Ford did come out with a bulletin where it will cause one to seem like it's missing over 3,000 RPM) On that model, I recommend the sensor and something called a synchronizer (usually the syncro starts to break up and destroys the sensor itself) if it's a 3.0 2v (most common engine).. It's buried under a wiring harness on the engine to the left of the upper intake But unless you have knowledge of how to time the sensor and how to install it (as improper instillation can cause a messed up motor as the sychronizer drives the oil pump .

What effect does a camshaft position sensor have?
Q. I have an 01 F250. Error codes tell me that the MAF and the Purge Cannister is bad. I have replaced both. Still trouble starting, and rough erratic idling, with backfires. Could the problem actually be the Camshaft Sensor? Thanks PO102 MAF sensor circuit low input PO443 Evaporative emission control system, purge control valve circuit malfunction
Asked by Goduece - Tue May 19 10:43:22 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The error codes do not tell you what to replace, only what circuits are having problems. Seldom does the MAF sensor ever fail. If it did, you could disconnect it and if it then starts, you can assume that it is NG. If you replaced both parts and still have the same trouble codes, you need to get a factory manual and follow the pinpoint test for each DTC. Are you getting a CMP sensor DTC? If it isn't broken, don't mess with it! You should have listed the codes that you got also, I never did like diagnosing in the dark>

Difference between crankshaft position sensor and camshaft position sensor?
Q. I know, I know, one of them tells the ECU where the crankshaft is and the other the camshaft. But my question is, what is the point of having both? I know the crankshaft one helps determine things like the spark timing. What does the camshaft one do that the crankshaft one doesn't do? What is the point of having both?
Asked by Robert - Thu Jun 11 12:11:44 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The camshaft turns at only half the speed of the crankshaft so you cannot assume the cam position by the crank position. While it would be possible to assume the crank position if you know the cam position, if there were any play in the chain or belt that drove the cam, this would introduce an error in the crank position which would be much more critical than the cam position since the spark timing is driven from the crank position and must be accurate to within a degree or two.

Camshaft Position Sensor or is it some other problem i have ?
Q. I have a 1999 Buick Century, 95000 miles Autozone already did a reading and told me its the camshaft sensor. But my symptoms dont relate to the camshaft The service engine light has been stuck on for almost 2 years. A. Autozone can just "read your codes". However, you may be looking at a power control module (pcm, the vehicle's "computer"), where the signal from the camshaft position sensor goes. You must get a complete engine diagnosis to determine whether it is indeed your camshaft positioning sensor or your pcm.

A. Camshaft position sensor should give you a problem light on your dash & a computer fault. and engine fuel system will not function, car will not run. Crankshaft position sensor disconnected, engine will not start or run reconnect it! or if it is damaged replace it. dont move the thing around it will mess up the fuel system timing. Yours: Grumpy

Are repairs to a po341 camshaft position sensor expensive?
Q. Can someone give me a ballpark figure what this repair my cost on a 2004 Cadillac CTS? Would the dealer be the best choice to make repairs?
Asked by chris - Fri Mar 26 15:54:34 2010 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. There is a fair amount of engine disassembly required to access this sensor. I would estimate at a very minimum 4 to 6 hours labor for a skilled mechanic. The labor will cost you more than the sensor. I suggest making a few telephone calls to some local independent mechanics. They will give you a much better idea of how much this will cost than anyone can give here. An independent mechanic will cost much less in labor than a Cadillac dealer. Any decent independent mechanic should be more than capible of replacing this sensor.

A. It is a sensor that went bad, i think it stops your car from starting. The part is very easy to change, all you need is a screw-driver and a new camshaft position sensor. It is located at the Passenger side of the car, around the belts. The part is about $150, and it is the size of an key chain.

Q. My car makes a squeaking noise when i crank it up.
Asked by Christine - Sat Jun 13 23:18:13 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Yes, it's a pretty common problem on that vehicle with the 3.0L OHV V6 engine. After these vehicles accumulate some mileage, the synchronizer shaft sludges up, restricting its free movement. Once this happens, the vehicle exhibits a squeaking sound extremely similar to, and often misdiagnosed as a belt noise. This will usually be accompanied by a slightly rough running engine. The proper repair for this symptom is to replace the cam sensor and synchronizer. Hope this helps.
