Nissan Altima crankshaft problem?
Q. I own a 2002 Nissan Altima the check engine light came on and we had it ran on the computer and it said crankshaft position sensor malfunction. We replaced the sensor but the problem is not gone. Could it be the wires instead of the actual sensor or is there something else wrong.
Asked by nickieandsarahsmommy - Sat Jun 14 20:18:33 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The sensor is located on the back of the engine next to the transmission belhousing. remove the engine cover and air filter rubber tube place a drop light in the heater hoses and look straight down between the throttle chamber and the valve cover the black sensor is held with a 10mm bolt (gold colored) crank sensor connector is a real bugger you have to push the green part in and that takes gorillia fingers.Yes the connector gets oil in it and causes the problem. Many times either you don't get the connector to snap back in and green part to click out. Caused by dirt the connector should be cleaned with brake cleaner spray and left to air dry or blow out with compressed air. or the wrong sensor is changed on the CYL head.

A. it is in a tough spot to see, can be changed from top of engine area, pull off air boot to throttle body and look down back of engine just above upper oil pan. it has a 3 wire connector going to it, held in with a 10mm bolt, there is an updated part # for the crank sensor to fix oil from getting into connector, there was a recall on these too, have a dealer check your vin #. they are a little tricky to change but not too bad usually 15-20 min or so if not too sticky

A. looking at the engine from the front of the car the ckp is on the right side,in the rear. it is really diffucult to see. take off the plastic panel on top of the engine and u can see it thu the intake looking down. its held in by a 10mm bolt. the connector is green and you have to push the green part into the connector for it to release.

2005 Nissan Altima 4 Cylinder CrankShaft Sensor Went Bad?
Q. The last week my car has just been cutting out on me and engine just stopping at red lights. Then i would have to restart the car twice or three times to get it going on again. Then yesterday for the first time it cut out while i was driving at like 12 miles per hour in a residential area. I haven't got an oil change in 7 months because i hardly dive its been under 1500 miles in those 7 months. I thought it may be because of bad oil i went in to get an oil change and the mechanic told me my Crankshaft Position was bad and that corresponds with the symptoms of your car cutting out on you. He said including labor it would cost 250. So i was just wondering if someone can confirm this or make any logic of it before i cough up big bucks Please… [cont.]

A. If this is the QR25 4 cylinder Altima do not pay 250 for this. I can't remember which one but their are two sensors that have issues with this motor and were revised. One was the CKP something. Basically the Cam Position Sensor and the Crank Position Sensor. The one I changed was under the motor near the tranny IIRC crawled under and took no more than 20 mins from start to finish. If you buy this part make sure its the new version. It should have a metal end on it instead of plastic. He had similar issues as your but the major thing you rrememberwere the RPM would drop on freeway driving. The part cost about 30 bucks at Autozone, and a few buck more for an OEM Nissan part, he's probably gonna charge you 2.5 hours of labor. I can't knock… [cont.]

Should I be ready to change my crankshaft position sensor?
Q. I drive a 2005 Nissan Altima (4 cyl manual transmission) with 67k on it. My car was running fine until one morning my engine misfired and the "Service Engine Soon" light came on. Since then my car occasionanally has trouble starting and the engine misfires on occasion. I connected an OBD II Scanner to see what the problem was. The error that came up on the scanner said "Crankshaft Position Sensor Circuit Malfunction." I won't get the chance until Friday to look at the sensor and the wiring harness, but was wondering if I should get ready to replace the sensor.

Nissan Altima speed sensor?
Q. My father has a 2005 nissan altima 2.5L. The check engine light turned on recently so he hooked up a scanner to it to get the codes. the codes read: P0725 (Speed sensor) P0335 (Crankshaft position sensor) We don't want to take it to the dealership and spend a lot of money if its a cheap do-it-your-self fix. Does anyone know where the sensors are, and how to replace them. if possible. any special tools we'll need. really appreciate any help, thanks

A. i cant speak for the speed sensor but i can tell you about crankshaft sensirs but let me say nissan IS a foreign brand but the altima is assembled in america, therefore it is an american car i own a 2003 nissan altima (same generation as you) and these cars are known for crankshaft problems and if you dont fix it your car may stall out on the highway (which can be deadly by the way) crank sensors i believe go for about $70 to $80 so they arent totally expensive so that you may be looking at a cheap fix, even if you do take it to a dealership also just to be safe have your catalytic converter looked at, 3rd gen altimas like ours, the pre cats in the 2.5 liter engine are known for going bad and can lead up to you needing a new engine … [cont.]

I have a Nissan Altima and I'm having car problems. Can you help me?
Q. So, my car is acting weird lately. It died on me the other day in the middle of the freeway. That was scary!!! It wouldn't start up right away but within a minute or two, it started and I drove off. My "Service Engine Soon" light is on. So I took my car to Autozone so they could hook it up to their sensor machine or whatever you call it. Two trouble codes were detected: P0335 (Crankshaft Position Sensor Condition) and P0725 (Engine Speed Signal). Can someone please translate what this means to me? Mainly, I need to know the following: 1. Is my car safe to drive? 2. Approximately how expensive will it cost to repair it? I know there is no way to tell exactly how much it would cost to fix it or what exactly is wrong with it. [cont.]
Asked by Tangelina - Mon Dec 1 21:28:25 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. If it is the 2.5L engine you probably need a new crankshaft position sensor. The labor to replace it is about and hour (.9) so your looking at lets say $100 to be on the safe side. The part should be under $100, its not exspensive. I would say total plan on $250. Your car is not safe to drive, it will stall again, and you do not want to be on the freeway again! that is dangerous! The codes, p0335 and p0725 pretty much just means the car does not know how fast the engine is spining and can not calculate ignition timing because of that. = car wont run. Good luck!

How do I stop my car engine from misfiring?
Q. I drive a 2005 Nissan Altima 2.5S (4 cylinder) with 71k on it. It normally runs well at idle, but occasionally idles rough. The crankshaft position sensor went bad at about 66k and was replaced. My engine often (but not always) misfires under 2 conditions. I am driving in 5th gear and let off the gas. It misfires when the rpms fall down to 1500. When I accelerate in 5th gear, it often misfires between 2000 and 2500 rpms. It happens more often when I am climbing a hill. I checked the spark plugs, and they look good. Also the past two fill-ups I put HEET ( ) in as well. My engine used to hesitate upon acceleration, but putting HEET in has helped fix that. What could be causing this problem, and how to I fix it?
Asked by DJR - Mon Mar 16 08:04:05 2009 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments
A. I sounds like you have a problem in the ignition system. Even if the plugs look good, you could still have a problem in the wires or coils. Even if it's coil-on-plug, The rubber boot that goes over the plug could be leaking, or have a carbon track. Check those boots closely; look for any little black spots or tracks, and they may have a white dust around the black spots. The spot won't be much bigger than a pencil dot.
