can someone help me with a speed control sensor location?
Q. I have a 1997 Ford Contour. I was told that the speed control sensor was on the right side of the motor. Is that setting inside the car and looking at the passenger side or standing outside the car and looking at the driver side? I have looked ALL over the motor and cannot find it. Could someone PLEASE help me?
Asked by Jon - Thu May 13 22:26:27 2010 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. When talking right and left with cars it is always as if you were sitting in the driver compartment. The speed sensor is related to the transmission not the motor so you are looking in the wrong area. The speed sensor will be somewhere near the axle and reads a ring inside the transmission through magnetic interference. This can be on either side of the transmission and whoever told you where it was might know for sure but I do not. Hopefully I have been helpful though.

where is the iat sensor location on 97 ford ranger?
Q. where is the iat sensor location on 97 ford ranger?
Asked by Ben M - Sat Jan 24 18:04:36 2009 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments
A. From Haynes Repair Manual #36071: All Ranger 2.5L engines, 3.0L and 4.0L 1993 through 1999 and 2.3L engines 1993 through 1997 utilize an IAT sensor. Models following those years do not have an IAT sensor. If your Ranger falls in the category of having an IAT sensor, the sensor is located inside the air intake duct between the air cleaner housing and the throttle body. (the sensor electrical connector is likely visible from outside the air intake duct and the sensor fits into the duct and is removable from outside the air intake duct.)

toyota camry O2 Sensor LOCATION and HOW MANY are there?
Q. I wanted to know how many O2 sensors are in the 2001 Toyota Camry. I am having problems with it and the local shop told me to pay them $400.00 for them to replace it. I think it is an outrageous price for replacing an O2 sensor. I wanted to buy it on ebay or somewhere I can get it cheaper and install it myself. I always try to work on my cars, but this one I just can t figure out. Where are the O2 sensors located and also how many are there? Thanks. I did also call the dealer and it was even more expensive.

A. Toyota uses "air/fuel ratio sensors" instead of O2 sensors sometimes and they are even more expensive than O2 sensors. Sometimes you end up stripping the threads getting the sensor out and you can get yourself into big trouble. So my advice is to simply continue to drive the car with the check engine light on as long as the car runs ok. Sometimes it's just the heater element that goes bad and the sensor works fine once the engine heats up. So you'll get a bad heater element error code but the sensor itself is still good once it gets hot.

A. It should be located in the front of the vehicle either between the grill and radiator or behind the bumper. If behind the bumper, you may have to raise the vehicle to locate it.

Can someone please describe the location of the crankshaft position sensor on a 2003 Nissan Altima?
Q. I purchased the sensor after the OBD II equipment stated that there was a problem with it, and replaced a sensor that is exactly the same on the drivers side. I have a feeling that I got the camshaft sensor and not the one with the problem, therefore I need to know where the crankshaft sensor is so I can replace the right one. Dealership confirmed that the part number for both is the same but could not give me a diagram or help on the location... Thanks in advance! 2.5L engine Thanks to everyone that replied... I found and replaced the sensor. o Confirmed that camshaft & crankshaft position sensors are the same. o Crankshaft position sensor is a lot more difficult to replace as it is hidden under the engine and very difficult to access… [cont.]

2005 Nissan Sentra Outside Air Temperature Sensor Location?
Q. My OAT is always reading around 90 - 100 when its actually 50 or below. Id like to check it for damage but am unable to locate it. Also my HVAC system (Heater) only blows heat when I am moving, when I stop at a light or idle it blows cold. Any correlation? Ive replaced my thermostat, and the inlet to my heater core is hot, What should I do?

A. Manual climate control or auto? rear View Mirror temp or elsewhere? Most times if properly installed the temp sensor is just ahead of the A/C condencer either fastened to the bumper cover or center hood latch reinforcement. Add on Mitto rear view mirror with temp compass the pick up may be placed whereever the installer wanted. Factory Pick up if disconnected and key turned on could display ICY for a couple days. Auto A/C temp sensor if unplugged A/C won't turn on until below 65 degrees

A. A. You don't necessarily have a bad O2 sensor the code says that bank 2 is lean. You need to check Long term fuel trims on both sides and check the response of the O2 sensor by artificially enriching the fuel mixture and checking the voltage of the affected O2. It should achieve 800mv rapidly. You may have a vacuum leak. Nissan's are weird it could be a defective MAF sensor or dirty MAF sensor. Are you using a KN type air filter? that can have and affect because the oil from the filter coats the sense wire on the MAF and fools it to think less air is coming tin the engine than is, ergo lean. Usually when the sensor is bad, it sets a performance code slow response. in 12 years as drivability tech I don't think this code has ever set… [cont.]

Coolant level sensor location - 1998 Chevy Malibu?
Q. Anyone know where the collant level sensor is located on a 1998 Chevy Malibu V6 3.1?? I already checked the owner's manual...
Asked by boobunny - Wed Nov 21 17:22:14 2007 - - 3 Answers - 1 Comments
A. It's on the bottom of the coolant bottle (the overflow). If your light is on and the coolant is full in the bottle take a small hammer and gently tap, have someone sit in the car with it running, and tap it until the light goes out, these sensors have a tendancy to get stuck and not operate properly.

Q. thanks for all the help about the vacuum lines i still need to know if i should change the top 2 o2 sensors or the bottom 2 . the car idles really rough in the morning especially when its cold it only lasts about 5 mins then evens itself out
Asked by Justin - Sat Dec 12 17:58:51 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. It's NOT the o2 sensors. Don't waste your time and money. Fouled/damaged spark plug? Loose spark plug wire? ADDED: O2 Sensor? Probably NOT the problem. People like to blame the O2 sensor for the problem because that's where the computer fault appears. However, nine times out of ten, it's not faulty. It is simply reading a condition in the engine that is causing it to send a signal to the computer that there is a fault in the exhaust emissions mixture. A fouled spark plug, loose spark plug wire, a vacuum leak, dirty injectors, EGR valve, weak fuel pump, dirty fuel filter, weak ignition coil, plugged air filter, on and on, can all cause the O2 sensor to register a fault code. Before you yank the O2 sensor and replace it, check the basics… [cont.]

A. The knock sensor is located Top rear of the engine, above the transmission bell housing, on the LH side ( right next to the distributor, below the oil pressure switch.) Now the bad news. The distributor needs to be removed, the oil pressure switch needs to be removed, to gain access to sensor.(sorry) It's a two wire connector A (dk blue ) knock sensor signal B (grey ) knock sensor return signal

Where is the location of front oxygen sensor for Honda Civic EX 99?
Q. I need to replace mine that's busted out. I searched online and people say it's pretty easy but I still need to find where the location is so that I can do it myself instead of paying $$$ to have repair shop do it for me.

A. It is probably mounted on the exhaust manifold in the front of the engine bay behind the radiator fans.
